PRESS RELEASE Contact: Teresa Jacobs Submits over 6,800 Petitions to Qualify for Orange County Mayor in Unprecedented Grass Roots EffortORLANDO, Florida (May 17, 2010) - Jacobs credits grass roots effort with petition gathering success. On Monday, May 17th at 11 AM, , Teresa Jacobs' campaign team will turn over to the Supervisor of Elections more than 6,800 petitions from Orange County voters, asking that her name be placed on the ballot for the county mayor election. In an unprecedented show of grassroots support, her campaign gathered them in just ten weeks - a feat that no other mayoral campaign has ever accomplished in that period of time. The required number to qualify is 6,041. "Words can't express how grateful I am to all my supporters who gave up their weekends and evenings to make this happen. Collecting nearly 7,000 petitions in just ten weeks could never have happened without their commitment and support," said Jacobs. Jacobs entered the race for Orange County Mayor in late January and began her petition effort on March 9th, the same day as this year's municipal elections. "One of my goals if elected as Orange County's next Mayor is to engage the citizens in our decision making process as we tackle the challenges of bringing more jobs, raising the bar on ethics, and building a stronger, more resilient community. Qualifying by petition confirmed how much citizens care about this community, how concerned they are about their government and that they will get involved when they know they can make a difference," said Jacobs. Teresa Jacobs first entered the political scene in 2000 when she ran for the District One - Orange County Commission seat against a well known and well funded two-term incumbent. At the time, she was virtually unheard of to the political establishment, but she unseated the incumbent in a landslide victory in the primary. She credited her victory then to her grassroots supporters. Prior to running for office, she was president of the Orange County Homeowners Association Alliance, a county-wide coalition of neighborhood associations ### |
