Teresa Jacobs Enters Race for Orange County Mayor
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla., Jan. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Former County Commissioner, Teresa Jacobs, announces her intentions to run for Mayor of Orange County on her Web site, www.TeresaForMayor.com. She will also be available for one-on-one interviews after 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 26, 2010. "In the eight years that I served, I asked for the support of the voters to pass important reforms - reforms that protected against school overcrowding, that raised the ethics bar for elected officials, and that guaranteed the public the right to speak at commission meetings. They all passed overwhelmingly at the ballot box. Together, we challenged the status quo and we won. Today, I ask for the support of the voters as I enter the race to become the next Mayor of Orange County," stated Jacobs. Teresa Jacobs represented District 1 on the Board of County Commissioners, which encompasses southwest Orange County from Winter Garden to Hunter's Creek. She was elected in 2000, re-elected in 2004, and stepped down in 2008 due to term limits. Jacobs was credited with taking on special interests, championing new ethics rules for Orange County elected officials, and successfully strengthening local laws to prevent school overcrowding. "In these current economic times, there are no simple solutions. No county mayor can waive a magic wand and cure a global recession. However, we can emerge stronger on the other side. Obviously, that will be a top priority," said Jacobs. Jacobs said that she and her team are developing a plan that will be new and different, but most importantly, it will be do-able.
