Business Woman & Mother![]() Successful Career, then Full-Time MomA sports injury in college brought Teresa and Bruce together. Teresa's parents had taught her to be self-reliant, even teaching her how to repair her car. But after breaking her arm, Teresa was unable to fix her car. So, she asked her friend Bruce for help. Bruce fixed her car and became her constant encouragement during Teresa's rehab process. Their friendship soon blossomed into two years of dating and, ultimately, marriage. To this day, Bruce is still Teresa's biggest cheerleader. They have four grown children (Josh, 23; twins Max and Lisa, 20; and Chase, 18) and a pet dog, Casey. Before becoming a mom, Teresa had a successful nine-year career in banking. She managed the bank's short-term investments and evaluated and approved the bank's investment strategies, strategically earning profits while minimizing risk. In fact, Teresa used her analytical background and expertise to discover and show that Orange County was not collecting adequate road impact fees, giving developers sweetheart deals, and costing taxpayers millions of dollars. When Teresa brought her findings to light and called for an overhaul of the system, the other commissioners sided against her. Then the comptroller's office came out with an analysis proving Jacobs was right. (Orlando Sentinel, 10-30-08) Of all the titles Teresa has held, from Assistant-Vice President in banking to President of the Orange County Homeowners Association Alliance to Orange County Commissioner, the one she is - by far - the most proud of is wife and mom. When she and Bruce had their twins, Teresa decided that raising their children would be her top priority. That's when she decided to become a full-time, stay-at-home mom. |
